US authorities are alarmed by the increasing use of artificial intelligence (AI) technologies in the realm of cybercrime. This announcement was made by law enforcement officials at the International Cybersecurity Conference, as reported by Reuters.

Experts claim that AI technologies can facilitate activities such as software hacking, fraud, money laundering, and other criminal activities.

Rob Joyce, the Director of Cybersecurity at the US National Security Agency, drew attention to the fact that innovative services are enabling individuals without specialized skills to carry out hacker attacks. This significantly lowers the barrier for entry into the realm of illegal activities, he emphasized.

James Smith, the head of the Federal Bureau of Investigation’s New York office, affirmed that the technical barriers to committing cybercrimes have significantly diminished in recent years. He also highlighted the considerable threat posed by individuals using AI knowledge to perpetrate fraud.

Federal prosecutor Damian Williams has pointed out that attackers who do not speak English are utilizing AI technologies for their own purposes. These services enable the creation of convincing messages to defraud American citizens of money.

Additionally, law enforcement officials have highlighted the widespread use of fake images and videos to circumvent banking systems and identity verification procedures. This enables criminals to launder money, which eventually ends up in the hands of terrorists and criminal organizations, experts warn.
