A British man who hacked the Twitter accounts of several celebrities in 2020 and also engaged in SIM card swapping got five years in prison for stealing about $900,000 worth of cryptocurrencies.</div
According to Judge Jed Rakoff, Joseph O’Connor’s actions resulted in significant. Therefore, he deserves a real prison sentence. The sentence was handed down on June 23 in the U.S. District Court for the Southern District of New York.<br
O’Connor, also known by his alias PlugWalkJoe, previously pleaded guilty to swapping SIM cards and hacking the Twitter accounts of prominent cryptocurrency industry figures;
He also ran fake token giveaways and promotions in which he received $794,000 in cryptocurrencies. In a similar scheme, he hacked into several cryptocurrency publications, as well as the accounts of Elon Musk and former U.S. President Barack Obama, earning $103,960 in digital assets.
Recall that Joseph O’Connor was arrested in Spain in 2021.
