ImmuneFi: The number of attacks on crypto projects increased significantly in the second quarter of 2023

ImmuneFi experts reported a 65.3% increase in attacks against crypto projects in the second quarter of 2023 compared to the same period in 2022.</div

The number of attacks on DeFi projects and blockchain platforms increased from 49 to 81 in the second quarter of this year, according to analysts. Compared to the first quarter, the figure increased by 11%.. Interestingly, however, the amount of stolen funds decreased by 60.4 percent during this period.<br

In total, cryptoprojects lost about $265.5 million in the second quarter of this year, with half of that (49.7%) coming from losses from the hacking of the non-custodial Atomic Wallet and the Fintoch project fraud.

Hacking was the cause of the biggest loss in the second quarter of 2023, accounting for 83.1 percent of lost funds.. At the same time, if we compare with the same period last year, the volume of funds stolen by hackers fell by 66.4%, but the fraudsters were able to get 225.4% more cryptocurrencies.

Projects on BNB Chain and Etherium networks were the most vulnerable, with 36 (44.4%) and 26 (32.1%) incidents, respectively. There were 10 attacks on Arbitrum’s network, though there were no attacks at all in the second quarter of last year.

DeFi projects and platforms remain the most popular attack vector, with $228.5 million (86.1% of all losses) withdrawn from such projects. $37 million withdrawn from centralized platforms. Only $10.5 million, or 3.9 percent of all stolen money, has been recovered.
