Solana congestion culprit Ore wins $50K from hackathon

Congestion on the Solana blockchain caused by experimental currency Ore has earned the project a $50,000 prize from a Solana Foundation-supported hackathon. However, Ore’s impact on the network has been more troublesome than beneficial, as the surge in mining activity led to difficulties in processing transactions for Solana users. Ore is an experiment in using the proof-of-work security mechanism on Solana, similar to Bitcoin, in contrast to Solana’s proof-of-history and proof-of-stake system. The project temporarily ceased mining in April due to network congestion but plans to relaunch a better version (Ore v2) in the future. Despite the challenges, Ore won the “Solana Renaissance” hackathon, showcasing its potential in the Solana ecosystem.
