PeckShield: more than $100 million in crypto-assets withdrawn from Multichain platform

As reported by PeckShield, the Multichain interconnect platform may have been hacked to the tune of more than $100 million – analysts have recorded strong capital outflows from the protocol.

Yesterday, July 6, 7,214 wETH worth $13.6 million, 1,024 wBTC worth $31 million and USDC coins worth $58 million were withdrawn from the Multichain Fantom bridge smart contract. The total value of the withdrawn crypto-assets was $102 million.<br

In addition, $666,000 was withdrawn from the Multichain Dogechain bridge smart contract, representing more than 86% of total deposits. USDC and USDT worth $5,872,661 were withdrawn from the Multichain Moonriver smart bridge contract, leaving it with only about $700,000.

Multichain’s developers confirmed the funds transfer, noting that the team is investigating. They urged users to stop using Multichain services. Meanwhile, analyst firm SlowMist believes what happened is a hack.

“The activity seems to have stopped.. However, because several bridges have been depleted, it looks more like a hack than a migration,” SlowMist wrote.

Earlier, PeckShield summed up the results of hacks for June – last month, attackers managed to steal almost $93 million in cryptocurrency. Hackers made a total of 42 hacks. The largest hack was of cryptocurrency wallet Atomic Wallet, from which $12 million of crypto-assets were stolen.<br
