The Sandbox CEO’s Twitter Account Hacked for Fraudulent Distribution of SAND Tokens

Hackers hacked into a Twitter account belonging to the CEO of The Sandbox meta-universe project to fraudulently distribute native SAND tokens. His access to the account has now been restored.

On Friday, May 26, The Sandbox CEO Arthur Madrid reported that his Twitter account had been hacked by scammers for a phishing scam.

However, he soon managed to regain control of his account. Madrid warned users never to click on any links advertising free distribution of crypto-assets or go to suspicious sites.

Four hours before it was published, The Sandbox’s official account also published a warning that hackers had “taken over” Madrid’s account.

The tweet includes a screenshot of a fraudulent post in which the attackers invited users to apply on the site to participate in the airdrop.

Fraudsters directed users to a phishing site whose name was different from the official one. Now the fraudulent site is already closed and gives a 404 error when you try to log in.

Phishing attacks are a fairly common problem in the crypto space.

It was recently revealed that malware vendor Inferno Drainer hired website developers to create several hundred phishing sites.

Losses to Inferno Drainer victims are estimated at nearly $6 million.

According to the ScamSniffer platform, phishers frequently use the Google Ads contextual advertising service.

In just one month they were able to fraudulently steal approximately $4 million.
