Charles Hoskinson: “Deepfakes pose a threat to the crypto community”

Charles Hoskinson, the founder of Cardano, has issued a warning to the cryptocurrency community regarding the potential for advanced forms of fraud facilitated by the rapid development of generative art technologies.

Highlighting a case of blatant deception, Hoskinson shared with his followers on the social network X an advertising video on YouTube that was created solely using generative artificial intelligence. This video featured an AI-generated image of Hoskinson purportedly discussing a future ADA giveaway, mimicking his speech patterns and intonation with remarkable similarity.

A user on the same social network, posting under the pseudonym Digital Asset News (@NewsAsset), recounted their experience of watching the false broadcast, noting that the generated image and AI voice were “pretty damn close to reality.”

Hoskinson anticipates that in the coming years, generative art will advance to such a level that distinguishing between genuine content and fraudulent deepfakes targeting cryptocurrency users will become exceedingly difficult for the average person.

Previously, Charles Hoskinson found himself embroiled in a scandal involving an obscure memcoin called Freya. Attackers took advantage of a personal photo he posted featuring his pet named Freya.
