Ethereum Developers Postpone Shanghai Hard Fork by Two Weeks

The Shanghai hard fork for Ethereum has been delayed by approximately two weeks, as announced by developers.

The mainnet update is now set to take place in April, with final testing on the Goerli network scheduled for March 14th.

During a meeting on March 2nd, the developers agreed to wait for at least two weeks after the hard fork on Goerli before rolling out the Shanghai update to the mainnet.

This would ensure that the final testing of the update was completed successfully.

According to Tim Beiko, one of the lead developers of Ethereum, it is customary to wait at least two weeks after the announcement of a main network upgrade.

He suggested moving the hard fork to the first weeks of April, rather than conducting it on March 16th, just two days after the Goerli hard fork.

The exact date of the mainnet hard fork has not been determined yet, and developers plan to meet on March 16th to discuss the results of the Goerli update and finalize the timing of the main network update.

The Shanghai update will bring the ability to withdraw locked ETH for staking. It is worth noting that the successful Shanghai hard fork has already taken place on the Sepolia testnet.
