Amazon MGM will release a film about the hacking of the Bitfinex crypto exchange

Amazon MGM Studios has announced the commencement of production for a thrilling new film titled Razzlekhan. This highly anticipated feature will delve into the gripping world of the 2016 Bitfinex crypto exchange hack.

The movie’s captivating storyline takes inspiration from a compelling New York Times investigation conducted in 2022. It uncovers the astonishing story of spouses Ilya Lichtenstein and Heather Morgan, who were embroiled in the laundering of an astounding 120,000 bitcoins. The talented Hannah Marks will take on the dual role of director and screenwriter, unleashing her creative vision upon the project. Intriguingly, the film’s title draws influence from Heather Morgan’s intriguing rap pseudonym.

In a dramatic turn of events, the couple was apprehended in 2022, and over the past summer, they both pleaded guilty to conspiring to launder illicitly acquired funds. Heather Morgan now faces a potential sentence of up to ten years in prison, while Ilya Lichtenstein may receive a maximum of 20 years behind bars. However, Lichtenstein staunchly maintains his denial of any involvement in the Bitfinex hack.

The illicit money laundering activities revolved around the utilization of mixing services and the creation of fake identities to open bank accounts. It is worth noting that the Bitfinex exchange recently foiled a massive $15 billion hacking attempt, emphasizing the importance of robust security measures.
