Romanian Crypto Enthusiast Buys 10,000 Pizzas for Bitcoin Pizza Day Celebration

Romanian crypto-enthusiast and investor celebrated the 13th anniversary of Bitcoin Pizza Day in an unusual way – he bought ten thousand pizzas for 1.01 BTC (approximately $27400).

Daniel Nita ordered a pizza at Bucharest’s Vintage Pub Bucharest, where the price per pizza is about $2.7. An eccentric investor paid for his order with a cell phone through Binance Pay.

Crypto-enthusiast told about his Bitcoin Pizza Day celebration on Twitter.

The message went viral and caught the attention of Binance CEO Changpeng Zhao. Zhao promised to try the local pizza when he visits Romania.

It is not yet known what Nita plans to do with so much fast food.

Bitcoin Pizza Day is celebrated on May 22.

On this day, Florida programmer Laszlo Hanyecz became the first bitcoin holder to risk using the cryptocurrency to buy a real item: two pizzas at Papa John’s.

Hanesh paid 10,000 BTC for the purchase, which was then equal to $40. After 13 years, the value of these BTCs is already more than $268 million.

Now every year on May 22, members of the crypto community around the planet order a pizza and count how much today’s two pizzas would have been worth in 2010.

Lazlo has no regrets about such an expensive purchase – he made the first commercial bitcoin transaction and made cryptocurrency history, helping to spread bitcoin around the world.
