Polygon Labs ceases technical support of the Polygon Edge platform

The Polygon Labs team recently revealed their decision to deprecate Polygon Edge and focus their efforts on Polygon CDK, an alternative solution.

According to a message on the official Polygon Labs portal, the Edge platform, which was designed to create second-layer user networks compatible with Ethereum, will no longer receive support. However, the Edge platform, also known as Supernets, will continue to function without updates, as Polygon Labs shifts its focus towards the development of the Polygon CDK solution.

In a statement, Polygon Labs explained, “Networks deployed using Polygon CDK will be compatible with the broader ZK-based L2 network in the CDK ecosystem, creating a single, unified, zero-knowledge liquidity pool. The Edge platform did not initially support such functionality, and improving it to the required level is not efficient due to the extensive changes it would require.”

Several projects, including Immutable, OKX, Astar, Canto, Palm Network, IDEX, Nubank, and Manta Network, have already expressed interest in utilizing Polygon CDK for their second-layer network development.

Additionally, the Polygon Labs development team previously announced the integration of the Polygon Proof-of-Stake payment service with MyLugano, a mobile application for everyday use by residents of the economic capital of southern Switzerland.
