A lieutenant colonel from Mordovia received 12 years in prison for a bribe in bitcoins

The Supreme Court of Mordovia sentenced the head of the drug trafficking control department of the Interior Ministry to 12 years in prison for taking a bribe of two BTC (more than 2.5 million rubles).

The prosecutor’s office said the defendant received part of the bribe in bitcoin in July 2022.

“He received part of the bribe in the form of the digital currency bitcoin worth Rmb68,000. by transferring digital currency to a digital (crypto) wallet specified by the defendant,” the prosecutor’s office said.

The defendant was stripped of the rank of lieutenant colonel. He is also barred from holding senior positions in the Interior Ministry for 10 years.

“Taking into account the position of the prosecutor’s office, the court sentenced the perpetrator to 12 years of imprisonment with serving his sentence in a strict regime penal colony, with a fine of 12.8 million rubles,” the prosecutor’s office said.

In June, the FSB detained Marat Tambiyev, head of the Investigative Committee’s department in Moscow’s Tverskoy district, on charges of taking a bribe of 10 million rubles. A couple months later, it was revealed that the suspect had set aside 1,032 BTC for his old age.

The day before, another Moscow law enforcement officer was caught for taking a bribe in bitcoins – Dmitry Gubin, deputy head of the Investigative Department of the Investigative Committee for the Tversky District of the capital, received 2,718 BTC.
