A student from Belgorod transferred 4.5 million rubles to crypto scammers

A 19-year-old student from Belgorod became a victim of cryptocurrency scammers. Under the pretext of making money by investing in digital assets, the scammers defrauded her of over 4.5 million rubles.

The “divorce” scheme turned out to be standard – the girl was offered quick earnings on cryptocurrencies by certain “curators” of the investment platform. They explained to her how to install the necessary applications and deposit money into an “investment account.”. After depositing a certain amount of money and the first successes, the victim tried to withdraw part of the funds, but the scammers began to lure out new investments.

“Under the pretext of paying for insurance, unfreezing the account, and so on, the mentors convinced the girl to deposit increasingly larger amounts. As a result, she transferred more than 4.5 million rubles to the scammers. The girl borrowed money from relatives and friends, and also made personal savings. A criminal case has been opened in Belgorod on the grounds of a crime under Part 4 of Article 159 of the Criminal Code of the Russian Federation (Fraud on an especially large scale),” the press service of the Ministry of Internal Affairs for the Belgorod Region reported.

Now law enforcement agencies are conducting investigative measures to establish the identity of the scammers. If they are arrested, they face up to 10 years in prison each.
