A supermarket AI bot in New Zealand offered users a recipe for chlorine

  • The PAK’nSAVE chain launched the Savey Meal bot to help shoppers cook simple and affordable meals, the company claims.
  • But after a series of experiments, it turned out that the app gives instructions for toxic substances.
  • These include chlorine gas, which the app describes as a lightening drink.

The Savey Meal AI bot from New Zealand supermarket chain PAK’nSAVE poses a danger to its users. This is reported by political columnist Liam Hehir. The program offers dangerous recipes in addition to the usual culinary ones.

Savey Meal’s mission is to help customers prepare a meal from a limited set of foods, according to the company’s website. Just enter a list of ingredients available to the user, and the app will provide several recipes.

They include some comical ones. For example, The Guardian shared a recipe for “Vegetable Stew with Oreo.”

But if you add other ingredients to the app besides food, the app produces a wider range of results. One of the recipes, which is titled “Aromatic Water Mix,” allows for the synthesis of chlorine gas, Hehir noted.

It’s a toxic asphyxiant. But the app, according to the reviewer, describes the recipe as follows:

“Serve chilled and enjoy the unique flavor.”

According to Hehir, PAK’nSAVE promised to impose additional restrictions on the service, and also pointed out the age limit.

“I’m sorry I upset you [PAK’nSAVE].. That’s a little harsh. This is just an absurd illustration of a simple thesis – AI is a great tool, but it has no judgment or consciousness. Algorithms cannot replace common sense.”

Remember, Morgan Stanley experts believe AI will set the trend in the market for the next decade.
