AI startup Anthropic has raised $100 million in investment

  • The funds will be used to develop a new LLM for the Telco platform and enhance the Claude v2 solution.

An AI startup Anthropic has raised $100 million in investment from South Korean telecom company SK Telecom. The funds will be used to develop a new version of the Large Language Model (LLM) for the Telco platform.

As part of the collaboration, the parties will explore the use of Anthropic’s Claude software solution in the telecommunications industry. This applies to customer service, marketing, sales and the development of new interactive applications, SK Telecom emphasized.

The incorporation of LLMs into Telco’s AI platform will in turn allow members of the Global Telco AI Alliance to take full advantage of the technology’s capabilities without having to develop their own solutions, the press release said.

“We believe that industry LLMs have significant potential to create safer and more robust AI tools,” Anthropic co-founder Dario Amodei said.

As a reminder, the organization released Claude v2 in early July 2023. Features of the model, according to the press release, include higher performance and broader response coverage.

Startup Anthropic is backed by Google. That said, it also has its own AI-based chatbot – Bard. However, the firm has had some problems with the latter in certain jurisdictions.

Anthropic representatives also attended the meeting with Vice President Kamala Harris. During the conversation, the two sides discussed the potential risks from the rapid development of the AI sector.
