Atomic Wallet hacker started withdrawing stolen funds

  • He exchanged them for BTC and threw them into the mixer
  • The service administration has yet to release details of the hack and investigation

We reported yesterday, June 5, that the non-custodial Atomic Wallet had been hacked. The estimated damage exceeded $35 million. Several large user portfolios were effectively liquidated.

Late that day, Elliptic released a report saying that a hacker, or group of them, had begun withdrawing funds. Apparently, before that they were exchanged for BTC.</nbsp;

Then the path of capital was traced to the Sinbad.io mixer.. The same service was used by the Lazarus Group, a North Korean hacker group.

Apparently, the hacker withdrew the stolen money and distributed it among several accounts.. It is almost impossible to trace the further path of the funds.

As for Atomic Wallet administration, it has not yet commented on the Elliptic statement.. The last report on the situation was published yesterday, June 5.

In it, the administration of the project claims that less than 1% of the average monthly number of users was affected by the hack.. However, the last transaction associated with the account of the attacker was “more than 40 hours ago,” that is, on Saturday morning.. Several users have shared screenshots that show that their wallets were emptied later than administration claimed.
