Binance, one of the world’s leading cryptocurrency exchanges, has joined forces with the Delhi Police in India to take down a sophisticated solar scam operated by M/s Goldcoat Solar. The collaboration led to the arrest of several individuals involved in the scam and the seizure of over 100,000 USDT, a popular cryptocurrency.
During the investigation, Delhi Police discovered that the scam syndicate was using fraudulent SIM cards registered under innocent people’s identities. These SIM cards were distributed on a large scale, with some even being sent abroad to facilitate scams. Additionally, the syndicate laundered the funds deposited by victims through various bank accounts and converted a portion of them into cryptocurrency, making the investigation more challenging.
The Delhi Police reached out to Binance for support during a sharing session and virtual meetings. Binance’s analytical expertise and resources proved crucial in tracing the money trail and apprehending the culprits. Jarek Jakubcek, Binance’s Head of Law Enforcement Training, emphasized the positive outcomes of such collaborations, stating that connecting with law enforcement agencies allows Binance to provide timely support in financial investigations to combat financial crimes.
Interestingly, this is not the first time Binance has assisted Indian authorities. Recently, Binance’s Financial Intelligence Unit (FIU) aided India’s Enforcement Directorate (ED) in shutting down a fraudulent online gaming app that defrauded users of over $47.6 million. By helping the ED trace the stolen funds and expose the broader network behind the scam, the collaboration led to the arrest of four major players involved in facilitating the scam.
These successful collaborations between public and private entities showcase the importance of cooperation in combating financial crimes in the cryptocurrency space. Binance remains committed to working with law enforcement agencies globally to provide support in financial investigations and contribute to mitigating fraudulent activities.
