  • And followed a malicious link
  • The $4.2 million assets ended up in the hands of criminals

Two teenagers were arrested in Canada for stealing $4.2 million in cryptocurrencies from an American. During a search, Hamilton police found digital assets totaling $13 million in their wallets.

A complaint about the theft of cryptocurrencies was filed with police by a U.S. citizen. He claimed that fraudsters swindled him out of a significant sum in bitcoins and ethers. The suspects were scammed through phishing emails, posing as Coinbase customer service. A trusting client clicked on a malicious link. As a result, the criminals gained access to the victim’s exchange account. It held bitcoins and ethers worth a substantial amount.

The names of the teenagers remain a secret. But both are known to be 17 years old.. The young scammers used the aliases “Felon” and “Gaze.”

As the victim of the theft was an American, the FBI and the U.S. Secret Service Electronic Crimes Task Force got involved.

Phishing emails remain the most common type of scam. The police urged citizens to be careful not to click on suspicious links. You should also carefully check messages that look like official letters from companies. Often scammers skillfully fake domains to mislead victims.
