Coinbase CEO announced the integration of Lightning Network

  • The CEO of Coinbase has again promised that the platform will have support for the Lightning Network. 
  • According to him, the exchange is looking at ways in which this can be done as efficiently as possible. 

CEO of cryptocurrency exchange Coinbase Brian Armstrong said the company is exploring ways to integrate the Lightning Network. This is how he answered Twitter founder Jack Dorsey’s question about why the platform blatantly ignores the technology. 

“We’re exploring how best to add Lightning. It’s non-trivial, but I support the idea. I am fully in favor of payments in cryptocurrency. I don’t know why you think we are ignoring bitcoin. We did more to get it adopted than any other company,” Armstrong emphasized. 

It is noteworthy that Coinbase’s CEO has been asked a similar question before. In April 2023, he said the exchange plans to add support for the Lightning Network, but did not specify when exactly.

In February 2023, Lightning Network bandwidth reached a new all-time high. A few months later, the popularity of the solution jumped again amid strong demand for Ordinals and BRC-20. 

Binance exchange Binance had earlier announced its support for the Lightning Network. The exchange’s CEO Changpeng Zhao suggested it would solve the high load problems on the bitcoin network.
