Critical Upgrade Looming for XRP Ledger Node Operators

Critical Update Required for XRP Ledger Node Operators

RippleX, the development branch of Ripple, has issued an urgent call to all node operators to upgrade to version 2.1.1. Failure to do so in a timely manner could result in amendment blocking.

The latest version of the XRPL reference server implementation was released one week ago and includes a crucial amendment aimed at fixing a serious vulnerability in the Automated Market Maker (AMM). This amendment is set to be activated on Thursday, prompting RippleX to strongly advise node operators to perform the upgrade.

In May, the AMM amendment was introduced to the XRPL, a moment described by Ripple’s CTO, David Schwartz, as highly significant for the XRPL’s potential to enhance the decentralized finance (DeFi) ecosystem. The AMM mechanism offers an alternative to traditional order books through the use of individual liquidity pools.

However, the rollout of the AMM feature encountered obstacles. In March, a critical bug was discovered, impeding the feature’s functionality. Transaction execution was affected due to inconsistencies in certain AMM pools. XRPL users were advised against using the feature until the RippleX team resolved the bug. Community participants, including Sologenic, swiftly suspended deposit functionality as a precaution.

The newly released version 2.1.1 includes the fixAMMOverflowOffer amendment, which addresses the major bug and ensures smooth operation of the AMM feature.
