Cryptocurrency marketmaker Wintermute expands Singapore office

The co-founder of one of the largest cryptocurrency marketmakers Wintermute has revealed that he plans to move from London to Singapore to develop a local unit.

According to Yoann Terpin, the company plans to relocate some of its employees from the British capital, about 4% (85 people). The reason for the decision was the growing adoption of digital assets by Asians, as well as a favorable regulatory environment.

“We are quite strongly focused on the Asian market. And the fact that I, as co-founder of Wintermute, will be in Asia and growing our business should send a strong signal to all cryptocurrency companies,” the businessman explained.

Wintermute now already has a representative office in Singapore, but the London office has been the main one so far. The company is also considering launching a unit in Dubai.

In late June, investors in bankrupt cryptocurrency lender Celsius accused
market maker Wintermute of helping the company’s CEO Alex Mashinsky “inflate the price” of the CEL token by falsifying trading volumes.
