Debate Emerges Over XRP Ledger’s Transaction Processing Capacity

Prominent XRP influencer Alex Cobb highlighted the impressive statistics of the XRP Ledger (XRPL) blockchain in a recent tweet. According to Cobb, XRP can process 3,400 transactions per second (TPS). He further broke down this figure into minutes, hours, and days to illustrate the blockchain’s capabilities better.

Cobb pointed out that 3,400 TPS translates to 204,000 transactions per minute, 12.24 million transactions per hour, and over 293 million transactions per day on the XRP Ledger. He emphasized that XRP is designed to be a global utility asset for banks worldwide, highlighting its potential in the banking sector.

However, Daniel Keller, an XRPL ambassador and CTO at Eminence, provided a reality check by stating that the 3,400 TPS figure is theoretical and achievable in a controlled lab environment under ideal conditions. In real-world scenarios with imperfect conditions, XRP typically achieves transaction speeds ranging from 500 to 700 TPS.
