DIY Chatbot: Raspberry Pi Serves Up $70 AI Module

DIY AI Module: Raspberry Pi Teams Up with Hailo to Offer Affordable AI Upgrade

Micro-computer developer Raspberry Pi has announced a new collaboration with artificial intelligence processor developer Hailo to introduce an AI Kit for its latest motherboard model, the Raspberry Pi 5. The AI Kit, priced at $70, allows the tiny computer to run AI models such as chatbots, object recognition, and pose detection, when paired with a camera. The preassembled kit includes an entry-level AI accelerator module, Hailo-8L, designed for products with limited AI capacity or lower performance requirements. Raspberry Pi, known for its affordability and modular design, has a strong community of do-it-yourself enthusiasts using its technology for various projects. The AI Kit connects to the motherboard using an M.2 HAT+ adapter, enabling independent use. Raspberry Pi OS, the operating system, needs to be configured to utilize the AI add-on. Users can access Hailo’s Model Zoo, a library of pre-trained AI models, after installation. Tel Aviv-based Hailo is a leading developer of AI hardware and accelerators for autonomous vehicles and generative AI models. The company recently concluded a $120 million funding round and launched its latest AI accelerator, Hailo-10. The partnership is expected to enhance computing capabilities and inspire innovation within Raspberry Pi’s community.
