Do Kwon’s business partner, Hon Chang Joon, also received four months in prison.
Kwon and Chang Joon were detained March 23 while trying to leave Montenegro. During border control at Podgorica Airport on a private flight to Dubai, both were found to have fake Costa Rican passports, and fake travel documents from Korea and Belgium were seized during a search.
According to local media reports, Do Kwon did not plead guilty. He has the right to appeal against the verdict within eight days from the date of receipt of a written copy;
Previously, Do Kwon tried to negotiate with law enforcement. The Montenegrin court of first instance recently granted an application for bail of 800,000 euros for Do Kwon and Chan-jung Han. It is not yet clear whether the court’s latest ruling changes the terms of the bail.
A Montenegrin court is now considering extradition requests for Do Kwon from South Korea and the U.S.. The U.S. and South Korea are charging Kwon with multiple fraud charges for his alleged role in the Terra collapse last spring.
