Former Openbazaar developer Chris Pacia has criticized the way Bitcoin’s lightning network (LN) was proposed as a scaling solution. Pacia claims that technical experts knew that the LN would not function well, but intentionally misled the mainstream audience during the blocksize war. He argues that the weaknesses of the LN were hidden and experts who spoke out against it were censored and banned. Pacia believes that the mainstream actors relied on non-banned experts who knowingly lied to manipulate public opinion. Pacia is not the only developer to criticize the LN, as others have also raised concerns about its complexity, potential for centralization, and dwindling liquidity.
