The latest installment of the animated series Futurama showed a future where people are still mining bitcoin in Doge City. CoinDesk writes about it.

The series How the West Was 10100 tells the story of Professor Farnsworth, who borrowed money from a criminal organization to invest in bitcoin.

But the value of the first cryptocurrency plummeted and the crew of the “Interplanetary Express” suffers financial ruin. The action takes place in the year 3023 – people are still mining bitcoin, which is still volatile.

The show’s creators mocked statements regarding the huge electricity consumption of miners. Also in the show, there is a fictional country called Doge City, which has been linked to Dogecoin (DOGE) in the cryptocurrency community.
