  • A subsidiary of Take-Two Interactive is preparing the release of the Sugartown project.
  • It will eventually be a Web3 gaming platform closely linked to the Ethereum ecosystem, the company said.To earn internal currency, users are required to deposit ether or NFTs from Ora’s collection on the platform.

Zynga, a subsidiary of publisher Take-Two Interactive, plans to release a new project by the end of 2023. It’s an Ethereum-based browser game called Sugartown.

In a commentary for The Block, the firm said this is the first time it has developed a major Web3 game from scratch. The project will be closely tied to the Ethereum ecosystem, the publication emphasized.

In particular, according to Zynga’s statement, gameplay is tied to the “energy” that accumulates when you deposit ether or ERC-721-based tokens. For completing tasks, the player will receive the internal currency Sugar. It is required to access “rewards.”

The plot revolves around the town of Sugartown. According to the backstory, some sort of portal opened up in his territory, from which the creatures of Oras emerged.

It is also possible to earn Sugar by getting NFT Ora. The studio has scheduled the release of the 10,000 token collection for late 2023.

The game will be available exclusively in the browser. The developers promise to outline the rest of the gameplay and reward distribution system a little later.

“Our goal is to empower players with a sustainable Web3 platform full of engaging and long-lasting games. We created Sugartown with an eye on our market, but with ambitions to move forward in the near future,” said Matt Wolf, president of Web3 Games at Zynga.

Zynga is also behind such popular games as FarmVille and Words With Friends. The company first talked about releasing its own Web3 project in 2022. The studio was then bought out by publisher Take-Two Interactive for $12.7 billion.
