The first car purchased for 1,000 BTC was put up for sale at the Bitcoin2023 conference. The auction will close on May 20, at 11 p.m. ET.
This legendary car was bought in 2013 for 1,000 bitcoins. At the time, the car cost $22,000.. At the peak of the BTC value, the car was valued at $48 million.
It has been on the Bitcoin2023 show since May 18. Conference attendees can participate in an online auction at Scarce.City with the opportunity to own this historic artifact of the bitcoin revolution.
Prius has also been signed by well-known bitcoiners, including Ton Weiss, Andreas Antonopolus, David Ripley, Rasa, Samson Mou, Lin Ulbricht, Johnny Dolar, Pepnardo, Erika Gemma, Scott Talon, Bruce Fenton.
And it was recently signed by the CEO of BTC Inc., and Bitcoin Magazine David Bailey. He stated:
“This vehicle is an important part of bitcoin history. As I recall, it was the first real, serious purchase for bitcoins.
It wasn’t just a pizza from Papa Johns, it was a significant purchase.”
Bailey also said he would like to own the car himself and keep it in a bitcoin museum.
