This was an exciting year for Digital Art at Sotheby’s, as Buhanna mentioned in a tweet. The highlights include:

  • Nearly $35 million in sales.
  • The launch of a fully on-chain secondary marketplace that respects creators’ royalties.
  • The first dedicated live auction with over 300 participants, raising over $12 million.

It’s worth noting that this auction featured the “Grails” collection from the bankrupt Three Arrows Capital fund.

The record-breaking sale of $6.2 million was achieved by NFT Ringers #879, created by artist Dmitry Chernyak.

In total, there were more than 25 auctions focused on digital art throughout 2023. According to Buhanna, there is still room for growth in this field.

In another noteworthy event, three tokens from the Bitcoin NFT collection “BitsoinShrooms” were sold at auction for $450,000, significantly surpassing their initial price.
