India hosts documents on blockchain

India is embracing blockchain technology by hosting documents on a blockchain platform. The website blockchain.gov.in, operated by the National Informatics Centre (NIC), has onboarded documents from various federal organizations and provincial governments, including the Supreme Court. Educational certificates, land records, and drug logistics chains are among the documents that have been put on the blockchain. This move is aimed at curbing document forgery and manipulation. India published a “National Strategy on Blockchain” in December 2021, recognizing the potential benefits of the technology. The National Payments Corporation of India (NPCI) has also signed a pact with the Indian Institute of Science (IISc) to conduct joint research on blockchain and artificial intelligence (AI). The Reserve Bank of India (RBI) Governor has expressed support for blockchain technology and stated that the central bank is utilizing it for their own central bank digital currency. India’s Finance Minister has also acknowledged the growing importance of blockchain technology.
