Kamala Harris Presidential Odds Tie With Trump’s on Polymarket

Kamala Harris and Donald Trump are now tied at 49% in the race to predict the next President of the United States on the crypto prediction platform Polymarket. This is the largest betting pool on the site, with over $541 million wagered. This development comes after Harris announced her running mate, Minnesota Gov. Tim Walz, surprising Polymarket users who had favored Pennsylvania Gov. Josh Shapiro. Both Harris and Walz, as well as Trump’s running mate J.D. Vance, are currently campaigning in Michigan. Harris’ odds on Polymarket have been steadily rising since July 21, when Biden dropped out, while Trump’s odds had already slipped to 7% at that point. Prediction markets like Polymarket are seen as valuable sources of probabilities and market sentiment, although participants are self-selecting. Polymarket, in particular, is skewed towards crypto users. The platform recently welcomed statistician Nate Silver as an advisor. Polymarket has experienced explosive popularity in recent weeks, driven by the presidential race and U.S. politics, with a record $387 million in trading volume in July alone.
