Ledger Delays Launch of Ledger Recover Service and Drops Controversial Key Recovery Feature

The head of the company said that Ledger is delaying the launch of the Ledger Recover access service until the open source code for the protocol is published.

Pascal Gauthier issued a statement: Ledger is dropping the controversial key recovery feature following negative user reaction and apologizing for the misunderstanding surrounding the announcement of the development.

Ledger’s CEO assured that while the company’s policy is not to make all product codes publicly available, this will be different for Ledger Recover.

“Our unintentional communication error took everyone by surprise and impacted customers’ ability to accurately understand the true purpose of Ledger Recover, its role for the growing cryptocurrency community and Ledger’s future offerings.

We apologize for the way it was presented. We will open source the Ledger Recover protocol, which will allow the community to have as much choice as possible over self-storage, in addition to the fact that using the service is completely optional,” Pascal Gauthier apologized.

Last week, the hardware cryptocurrency wallet provider came under criticized after announcing a new feature Ledger Recover access.

This feature allowed you to divide the source phrase into multiple blocks and send them to three independent addresses for storage.
