Lens Protocol Launches Closed Beta for Bonsai, a Solution to Decentralized Social Media Scalability Issues

  • The project is in a closed beta stage
  • For now, only Lenster users have access to it

Yesterday, April 26, Aave Companies, developers of Lens Protocol, announced the launch of the beta version of the L3 solution Bonsai.

The project aims to address the scalability issues of decentralized social media applications.

The official press release is available at. Note that the beta test is in closed mode, the service is only available to Lenster users.

Bonsai processes Polygon transactions offline, significantly reducing costs and ensuring further scaling of the project.

In theory, this would solve the problems of low bandwidth, which has not “kept up” with the growth of online.

Unlike L2 solutions, Bonsai does not compress data. The service uses a subnet specifically designed to store transaction information.

“The main goal of decentralized social networks is to provide two things – full user control over content and convenience.

Bonsai makes it possible to achieve this. The future of decentralized social clients is in front of you,” the press release says.

Lens Protocol is a platform for developing such social networks. Bonsai, in turn, will provide the conditions for increased user growth without regard to the technical limitations of L1.

The protocol went live in May 2022. At the moment, the project’s audience reaches 116,000 users. So far, the dApps Lens Protocol pool consists of 17 apps, including Lenster (the Web3 equivalent of Twitter).
