Major Boost for Crypto as Pro-Blockchain Candidates Dominate 2024 Election Races

Crypto advocates are set to celebrate a significant victory in the world of politics, as the results from the 2024 U.S. election reveal a surge in pro-crypto candidates securing seats in Congress. This outcome comes after the crypto sector flexed its political and financial muscles, spending over $238 million to increase its influence within the American legislative landscape.

Preliminary forecasts from the Fox News Decision Desk, combined with live results from the Stand With Crypto website, indicate that pro-crypto candidates have achieved notable success across various states. The current tally shows that 247 candidates with pro-crypto stances are leading in the House of Representatives, compared to just 113 with opposing views. In the Senate, 15 crypto-friendly voices are ahead in their respective races, while only ten anti-crypto politicians appear likely to make it to Capitol Hill.

Several high-profile Senate races experienced significant spending from Political Action Committees (PACs) aligned with the digital assets industry. For example, Bernie Moreno, the Republican candidate for the Ohio Senate seat, successfully unseated Democratic incumbent and Elizabeth Warren ally Sherrod Brown. Moreno’s campaign received a boost of $40.1 million from the pro-crypto super PAC Defend American Jobs, with contributions from Coinbase CEO Brian Armstrong and prominent venture capitalists Marc Andreessen and Chris Dixon.

Beyond the Senate, crypto funding made an impact in multiple Congressional races, leading to victories for candidates who openly support blockchain and digital assets. Republican Jim Banks secured a Senate seat in Indiana with substantial backing from the Defend American Jobs PAC, which contributed $3 million to his campaign. The PAC also directed $2 million toward John Curtis in Utah, where he succeeded Mitt Romney.

In some key victories for Democrats, Representatives Ritchie Torres and Dan Goldman, both vocal about their support for crypto, retained their seats with financial assistance from the Protect Progress PAC. Protect Progress contributed $150,853 to Goldman and $110,148 to Torres, highlighting the bipartisan nature of crypto advocacy.

Pro-crypto candidates received support nationwide, with Democrat Adam Schiff, a strong crypto supporter according to Stand With Crypto’s grading, winning the Senate race in California against Republican Steve Garvey, securing over 5.1 million votes. Schiff was joined by Ted Cruz, who retained his Texas Senate seat by defeating Democratic opponent Colin Allred by over 900,000 votes. Cruz, a known Bitcoin advocate, has been instrumental in pushing for his state to become a “crypto oasis.” Additionally, crypto found allies in Texas’ 15th, 28th, 32nd, and 34th congressional districts, with Representatives Monica De La Cruz, Henry Cuellar, Julie Johnson, and Vicente Gonzalez marked as strong supporters of virtual assets.

Matt Gaetz, the congressman who introduced legislation to allow Bitcoin payment for federal income tax, emerged victorious in Florida’s Congressional District 1, defeating the Democratic Party’s Gay Valimont by a margin of over 133,000 votes. In total, it is projected that 21 pro-crypto candidates will win seats in the Sunshine State, with only six from the opposing camp likely to succeed.

While vote counting is still ongoing in most states, a clearer picture will emerge in the coming days as the results of tight races are confirmed.
