Media: Meta will launch chatbots with AI to retain users

  • Meta is preparing new human-like chatbots, claims the Financial Times.
  • Virtual interlocutors are expected to grab visitors’ attention.
  • The chatbots are scheduled for release in September.

Meta Corporation will launch artificial intelligence (AI)-based chatbots to boost user loyalty. They will be able to lead discussions and copy various characters, the Financial Times reports.

The first prototype interlocutors, who speak like Abraham Lincoln and give helpful advice, will be unveiled in September, the publication claims. They will be able to have full conversations about anything from surfing to traveling.

The Meta developers call the new bots “characters” and plan to endow them with unique personality traits. The main purpose of launching AI-enabled robots is to attract and retain users on the platform. In addition to the new search features, they are supposed to be “an entertaining product that you can have a great time with.”

On July 26, Mark Zuckerberg filed his second quarter 2023 earnings report. He also talked about the launch of Threads, the company’s new product and closest competitor to X (formerly Twitter). However, after a while, the number of active users of the app dropped by almost half compared to its first day.

According to media reports, the company is now working on launching a commercial version of LLama, an AI-powered language model. It aims to strengthen its position in the market, to compete with Google and OpenAI.

Meta wants to automate the validation of data collected by such programs. This will ensure accuracy, improve security and help avoid privacy breaches.
