Meta (Facebook) Is Returning to the Crypto Space After Years! An Official Statement Has Been Released; Two Altcoin Networks Will Be Used

Meta Steps Back into the Crypto Scene with New Payments Initiative

After a four-year hiatus following the collapse of its ambitious Libra (Diem) project, Meta is making its entry back into the world of stablecoins.

The tech giant recently announced the rollout of a digital payment platform for select content creators based in Colombia and the Philippines. This new service facilitates payments through USD Coin ($USDC) using the Solana and Polygon networks.

Content creators can now receive their payments in stablecoins by providing their third-party crypto wallet addresses on Facebook’s payment system. However, it’s worth noting that Meta will not provide any currency conversion services for $USDC. Additionally, Meta has partnered with Stripe to manage tax reporting associated with these stablecoin transactions.

A spokesperson for Meta commented, “We strive to provide optimal payment methods. Thus, we are investigating if stablecoins can play a role in our payment options.” As of now, Stripe has not provided additional insights regarding this partnership.

This initiative comes after the withdrawal of Meta’s earlier project, Libra (which was later renamed Diem), which was scrapped in 2022 under growing regulatory scrutiny. The company began reassessing its approach to stablecoins last year as regulatory conditions appeared to shift positively in the U.S. during Donald Trump’s presidency.
