MtGox Bankruptcy Update: Claims Deadline Passes, Payment Distribution Expected by October 2023

MtGox, the defunct cryptocurrency exchange, has made an announcement that marks the end of the period for customers to file claims for damages.

The exchange has confirmed that those who submitted their applications before the deadline will receive payment soon.

However, customers are no longer able to make changes to their payment methods or personal details.

According to the company, it intends to distribute a portion of the funds, which includes 141,600 bitcoins ($3.95 billion), 142,800 Bitcoin Cash (BCH) ($17.8 million), and 69.6 billion yen ($528 million) by October 31, 2023.

Despite the fact that the first payment has been postponed to October, the bankruptcy proceedings are still ongoing.

Once the world’s largest bitcoin trading platform, MtGox accounted for 90% of the total trading volume of the cryptocurrency.

In 2014, the exchange filed for liquidation after a hacker attack led to a loss of 850,000 BTC. It was announced in February that the two biggest MtGox creditors would be able to recover their losses in bitcoins.
