NFT Artist Deekay Kwon’s Wallet Hacked, Entire Life Savings Gone
Korean NFT artist Deekay Kwon has revealed that his wallet was targeted and all of his hard-earned savings have been stolen. In a heartbreaking post on X, Deekay shared, “I have just become a victim of cybercrime. All my wallets have been stolen, my life savings, and everything I have earned as a Web3 artist has vanished. This happened during a 14-hour flight from South Korea to New York.”
The unfortunate incident occurred while Deekay was traveling, leaving him unable to access the internet during the flight. It appears that his mnemonic phrase may have been leaked, leading to the theft of his funds. Thankfully, his NFTs were left untouched, prompting Deekay to swiftly transfer them to a new secure wallet.
“I have nothing now, and this may be the greatest challenge I’ve ever faced. My biggest concern is my family, who depend on me financially,” expressed Deekay, highlighting the devastating impact of the loss. Distressed by the news, numerous X users sent messages to crypto sleuth ZachXBT, requesting assistance for Deekay.
Unfortunately, this isn’t the first time Deekay has fallen victim to such an attack. Back on July 15, 2022, his X account was compromised, resulting in the theft of NFTs worth over $150,000. The perpetrator even went as far as posting a link to a phishing website, luring users into approving malicious transactions to acquire an exclusive NFT. This cunning strategy enabled the hacker to steal NFTs valued at approximately $150,000 from multiple victims.
Deekay’s distressing situation serves as a reminder of the risks and vulnerabilities associated with the crypto world. As cybercrime continues to evolve, it is crucial for artists and investors to prioritize security measures to safeguard their assets.
