To support its vision, 1X recently announced that it has secured $100 million in Series B funding, led by EQT Ventures. This funding will enable 1X to take a leading role in the growing field of domestic robotics and bring NEO to market. Bernt Øivind Børnich, the CEO of 1X, expressed excitement about scaling their data collection strategy for Embodied AI and offering NEO to consumers.

NEO is the latest addition to 1X’s robot lineup, following their previous model EVE. With the backing of global investors, the company aims to revolutionize the domestic sphere by deploying NEO, a second-generation bipedal android designed for consumer use. This move represents a shift in robotics technology from industrial and logistics functions to providing home assistance.

1X’s mission aligns with their commitment to harnessing the potential of AI and robotics to meet global labor demands. OpenAI recognized this potential and led a previous investment round of $23.5 million to help launch the startup.

The expectations surrounding NEO are high, with Ted Persson from EQT Ventures stating that 1X’s androids will play a crucial role in our technological and human future. The previous model, EVE, displayed remarkable versatility and potential in various industries, from security to healthcare. NEO builds on this foundation with its bipedal locomotion, mirroring human movement, and advanced AI capabilities, allowing it to adapt and learn from its surroundings.

1X’s impressive fundraising places it in direct competition with other major players in the robotics industry, such as Tesla and Boston Dynamics. Tesla’s humanoid robots, known as “Optimus,” have already showcased advanced features and garnered attention from CEO Elon Musk. Boston Dynamics, on the other hand, is renowned for its robots’ advanced mobility and intelligence in challenging environments.
