The founder of Telegram revealed that he bought back some of the bonds to fund the social network’s continued growth and admitted to holding bitcoins and TON tokens in his crypto accounts.
“Some people think I should have bought a house or an airplane instead. But I prefer to focus on my work without ‘owning’ anything (well, except Telegram, some bitcoins and TON coins),” Pavel Durov wrote on Telegram.
Durov said Telegram already has 800 million monthly active users:
“We are very grateful. Although this massive growth also means higher storage costs and traffic consumption to serve our users.”
It was recently reported that Telegram is introducing a Wallet Pay service for cryptocurrency payments – in bitcoins, Tether USD (USDT) stablcoin, and Toncoin (TON) coins. The Wallet Pay service provides crypto payments between users and retailers, allowing direct payments in the Telegram interface.
