The survey, which was conducted from July 27 to August 3, involved 120,000 Internet users from Russia. Respondents were 72% male and 28% female. According to the survey, 41% of Russians believe the digital ruble will have little impact on life, while 34% believe it will complicate the financial system.
When asked if they would use the digital ruble, only 56% of respondents answered in the affirmative. 44% of respondents said they had no plans to use digital currency, and only 15% of survey participants said they would like to participate in the testing.
More than half of respondents – 53% – do not understand how the digital ruble system works. Only 13% of survey participants trust digital rubles as much as cash or electronic money. Meanwhile, 88% of respondents have not used cryptocurrencies at all.
The law on the introduction of the digital ruble into the banking system was adopted in July. The Central Bank of the Russian Federation, which is assigned the status of the CBDC platform operator, now has the right to refuse any commercial bank to conduct a transaction. Several major banks have announced that they are ready to test real-world transactions with the government’s digital currency.
Recently, Olga Skorobogatova, the first deputy governor of the Bank of Russia, said that the digital ruble will not be able to be bought in physical form, and that all offers of such a product are fraudulent.
