Polygon Labs Launches “Chain Development Kit” (CDK) and Starts the Era of Customized Blockchains

Polygon Labs has released a software tool called the Chain Development Kit (CDK) that allows developers to build Layer 2 chains for Ethereum based on zero-knowledge proofs. The CDK is an evolution of the Supernets tool offered as part of the Polygon 2.0 roadmap coming next year. It aims to provide a framework for the development of Layer 2 blockchains that can operate on the Ethereum network. According to Polygon Labs, Layer 2 blockchains deployed using the CDK will be able to connect to the common ZK bridge, ensuring interoperability.

The toolkit will support the so-called “Interop Layer,” a new protocol being developed by Polygon Labs that will combine zero-knowledge proofs from multiple Polygon chains and secure them by generating them with the Ethereum mainnet. This layer also serves as a coordinator of the states of the various Layer 2 chains, ensuring their composability.

Recently, Polygon Labs has been developing individual chains for Immutable, IDEX, Palm Network and Aavegotchi. With the advent of Polygon 2.0, the focus will shift towards creating more interconnected chains, which will lead to the creation of an ecosystem similar to Cosmos and Polkadot, but focused on Ethereum Layer 2 developers.
