Ripple Joins Forces With the IRC to Help Crisis-Affected People (Details)

Ripple, a leading blockchain-based payment solution provider, has teamed up with the International Rescue Committee (IRC) to provide assistance to crisis-affected individuals. This collaboration aims to enhance cash relief programs and fund transfers, with a focus on regions that have limited access to traditional banking services.

As part of the partnership, Ripple has committed to providing $1 million over multiple years to support humanitarian efforts. The funding will be used to explore the use of Ripple’s cross-border payment solution and their upcoming stablecoin, RLUSD, in delivering aid. The goal is to enable vulnerable communities to quickly and securely access critical resources on a larger scale.

Eric van Miltenburg, SVP of Strategic Initiatives at Ripple, expressed excitement about leveraging blockchain technology for positive global impact through this partnership. He emphasized the importance of learning from the IRC’s experience in delivering aid on the ground to help Ripple support humanitarian efforts at scale.

David Miliband, President and CEO of the IRC, praised Ripple’s leadership in blockchain payments and expressed the organization’s openness to exploring innovative solutions. He highlighted the potential of technologies like stablecoins to enhance the speed and efficiency of cash-relief programs, particularly in regions with limited banking infrastructure during times of crisis.

This collaboration with the IRC is not Ripple’s first involvement with a renowned humanitarian organization. In 2020, Ripple announced a $10 million contribution to Mercy Corps, an organization operating in conflict zones, disaster areas, and impoverished regions. The funding aimed to promote financial inclusion and economic empowerment globally by leveraging digital financial technologies.

Through these strategic partnerships, Ripple is actively working towards generating positive social impact using blockchain technology and digital financial solutions.
