Ripple said it plans to obtain a license in the UK

  • The company further sees the US as its global hub, but plans to grow in Europe and the UK.
  • Ripple has already applied for a payment institution license in Ireland.

After a positive court ruling in a case against the US Securities and Exchange Commission (SEC), Ripple intends to obtain a license in the UK, Ripple Europe managing director Sandy Young told DL News.

She added that the company has “recently” applied to register as a cryptoasset firm with the U.K.’s Financial Conduct Authority (FSA), as well as for a payment institution license in Ireland.

A judge ruled on July 13 that the sale of the XRP token through exchanges does not constitute an offering of securities. Sandy Young called the verdict a “huge win” and said the firm has no intention of changing its strategies and growth plans.

“We are in the process of applying for registration in the UK and licensing in Ireland. These steps are important in order to continue to grow in this region,” said the managing director of Ripple Europe.

She also emphasized that the company’s stance on the U.S. as a global hub remains unchanged. However, over the past two years, they have been expanding aggressively outside of the United States. Yang added that Ripple is an organization that has more than 15 offices around the world.

The company’s UK and European workforce has grown by about 75% in the past 18 months. At the time of writing, we have over 100 employees working out of offices in London, Dublin and Reykjavik.
