Russians were buying USDT against the background of Yevgeny Prigozhin’s rebellion

Russians actively exchanged rubles for Tether steiblocoin during the brief mutiny of Yevgeny Prigozhin, head of the Vagner PMC, this weekend. That’s according to CCData.

The trading volume of Tether stabelcoin (USDT), which was bought for rubles, more than tripled on June 24 and amounted to about $15 million on cryptocurrency exchanges, which still support trading of the Russian currency. For comparison, the day before the volume of trading was $4 million.

According to CCData, the largest platforms for ruble transactions this month were Binance, Cryptonex, HitBTC and Coinsbit;

Cryptocurrencies, especially USDT, have become very popular with Russians during sanctions. The Bank of Russia recently reported that there are more citizens who use cryptocurrencies to store their savings than those who use metal accounts and mutual funds;

Earlier, the Russian branch of the international human rights organization Transparency International revealed that Russians are using Tether to send money to Western countries to circumvent sanctions.<br
