Santa Cruz County Approves Blockchain-based Digital Wallet for Government Services

The County Council of Santa Cruz in California has recently given the green light to a groundbreaking initiative: the development of a digital wallet for government services based on blockchain technology.

The pilot for this project is scheduled to be launched in July 2023 and is being spearheaded by Humbl, a prominent developer in the blockchain space.

The primary objective of this project is to provide users with convenient access to public services by digitizing paper documents, records, and other essential services.

Local officials have expressed their desire to evaluate user trust during the pilot period, which will conclude no later than September 2023.

Santa Cruz Governor Zach Friend has expressed his excitement about the project and believes it will be a significant step forward for the convenience of residents.

The Santa Cruz Digital Wallet project was first discussed in April 2022 and is possible due to a recent law passed by the state of California allowing county governments to issue vital records using data stored in blockchain-secured digital wallets.

In other blockchain-related news, the California Federal Court has been hearing arguments regarding the recognition of XPR as a security.

If Ripple is successful in proving the allegations in court, this could set a precedent for the entire crypto industry.

The California Department of Financial Protection and Innovation (DFPI) has also launched a Crypto Scam Tracker service to help track fraudulent cryptocurrency projects.
