Tether intends to register four trademarks in Russia

Tether, the issuer of the leading stablecoin USDT, has officially applied to the Federal Service for Intellectual Property of Russia to register its products.

These applications were submitted on January 12 and were included in the bulletin of the Federal Service for Intellectual Property on January 15. Tether aims to formalize four of its products and register the trademarks ALLOY BY TETHER (application 2024701810), AUSDT (2024701812), TETHER ALLOY (2024701813), and TETHER USDT (2024701814).

However, Tether has recently faced criticism from experts at the United Nations (UN) who have alleged that USDT is frequently involved in fraudulent schemes in Southeast Asia. The report highlights that law enforcement agencies have disrupted the operations of multiple networks engaged in the illicit transfer of funds into USDT.

Nevertheless, Tether has strongly refuted these claims, emphasizing its active collaboration with global law enforcement agencies and regulators. In November, Tether announced its partnership with the US Department of Justice, freezing approximately $225 million linked to international human trafficking in Southeast Asia.

In December, Standard & Poor’s, the renowned rating agency, released a rating for stablecoins, awarding USDT a relatively low score of four. The agency cited concerns that the largest stablecoin in the market faces certain limitations in maintaining a fiat peg.
