The developers of the L2 project Taiko launched the Katla test network

  • The Taiko Labs project team presented the Katla test network.
  • The mainnet will be launched at the end of the first quarter of 2024.
  • Previously, the startup attracted $22 million in investments from Sequoia Capital China, KuCoin Ventures, OKX Ventures and other venture funds.

The Taiko Labs team behind the Taiko ZK-Rollup solution has introduced the Katla testnet. The announcement was made ahead of the mainnet launch, which will take place at the end of the first quarter of 2024.

As the project team reported, Katla is the sixth Taiko test network, combining elements of Optimistic and ZK-Rollup. The launch of the mainnet is expected to benefit decentralized applications that require high bandwidth.

In terms of architecture, Taiko is the equivalent of zkEVM. However, unlike second-layer rollups with centralized sequencers, Taiko relies on Ethereum validators to sequence transactions and blocks. As noted by Taiko Labs, this provides additional security and resistance to censorship.
