The fugitive ex-head of Turkey’s largest crypto exchange Thodex has received a prison sentence

The founder and former CEO of Thodex Exchange received seven months in prison for failing to provide documents to the IRS. The papers were requested during the trial.

The prosecutor initially demanded a five-year prison sentence for Faruk Fatih Özer (Faruk Fatih Özer). However, the court sentenced the businessman to one year and six months in prison and later the term was reduced to seven months and 15 days. However, the convict is awaiting a new trial;

Prosecutors now accuse Ozer of defrauding Thodex investors, “creating and operating an organization with the intent to commit a crime,” “fraud using information systems as an instrument of embezzlement,” and “laundering the proceeds of crime.” A hearing in the new case has not yet been scheduled.

Trials in the high-profile asset theft case of Turkish cryptocurrency exchange Thodex began in June. At the time, the former head of the stock exchange denied all allegations.

Fatihua Ozer, who was extradited from Albania for trial, claims he left the country with the sole purpose of finding investors abroad and concluding favorable partnership agreements for the stock exchange and its clients;

On the aggregate of the charges, Ozer could face a life sentence of 40,564 years behind bars.
