The Starknet team announced the mainnet update date

  • Developers of Starknet have announced that they will roll out a new version of the mainnet on January 10th.
  • The main goal of this update is to reduce transaction fees on the network.

The team behind the Starknet project has confirmed that the v0.13.0 update will be deployed to the mainnet on January 10, 2024. The update aims to address various issues, with a focus on reducing transaction costs. A tweet from Starknet on January 7, 2024, mentioned that the upgrade is scheduled at around 11 am UTC, pending governance vote approval.

The voting process resulted in an overwhelming majority of 99.86% in favor of the update. The new version will introduce significant changes to the mainnet, particularly in terms of reducing transaction fees, as noted by the developers.

The upgrade is set to occur on January 10, 2024, at 13:00 Kyiv time. Validators are urged to update their nodes immediately after the deployment of the data package.

An important change in version v0.13.0 is the introduction of V3 transactions. According to the developers, this is a crucial foundation for the future development of the project.

Specifically, the new type of transactions will eventually enable the option to pay commissions in STRK, in addition to Ethereum. The update went through testing on the Goerli and Sepolia test networks in early December 2023.

It is worth mentioning that the Starknet team previously confirmed a snapshot for an upcoming airdrop. The first batch of STRK tokens is expected to be unlocked in April 2024.
